Midsummer: Oíche Tine Cnámh

The Ulster Folk Museum and An Droichead invite you to Join us for a special summer solstice evening to mark midsummer.

Midsummer has been celebrated in Ireland for centuries. We see ancient structures aligned to the rising sun and for centuries, people on this island have lit bonfires and performed rituals to ensure good fortunes for the coming harvest.

Come and explore the Ulster Folk Museum exhibit buildings and beautiful rural site animated with music, craft and traditions to immerse yourself in this significant day in the Celtic calendar.

Often known in Irish as Oíche Tine Cnámh (night of the bonfire), a fire is one of the most enduring traditions of the date. In honour of this, the evening will culminate in a specially commissioned dance piece to take place around the midsummer fire at the museum’s Neolithic court tomb.

We are delighted to commission Off The Rails Dance to create this one-off performance which will be developed and performed alongside musicians curated by An Droichead.
