Creative Writing workshop: exploration of Seamus Heaney’s famous ‘bog poems’
This discussion of poems such as ‘Bogland’, ‘The Tollund Man’, ‘Bog Queen’, ‘Punishment’ and ‘The Grauballe Man’ will consider the challenges, ethics and aesthetics of writing about such archaeological finds, and aims to prepare and inspire participants who will be invited to produce their own reflections on the Iron Age Ballymacombs More Woman, who was discovered near Bellaghy in 2023.
Stephen Sexton is the author of two poetry books. He was awarded the E.M. Forster Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature in 2020. He teaches at the Seamus Heaney Centre, Queen’s University, Belfast.
