American Independence Weekend Celebrations
Discover what it was like for emigrants who left Ulster and arrived in America just as they declared independence.
The Minstrel Boys Living History Group will be with us exhibiting uniforms and weapons from the American Revolutionary War and the American Civil War, re-enacting firing displays and drills throughout the day. Take a look at their weapons table and learn about the progression of firearms from the 1600s all the way to the 19th century.
See demonstrations of traditional skills as you wander through the streets of Ulster and America and try tasty food samples like cherry & almond cake or succotash. There'll be live music on the frontier, face painting, air rifle shooting range, plus Independence Weekend themed crafts and entertainment for kids (& big kids) alike! Plus, you can stop by American Street for a reading of the 'Act of Independence'.
- Please note, even though this is a 4th July celebration, this event will take place on Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th July from 10:00 to 17:00.
- Maker Café will be having a 'BBQ in the Park' so grab a bite as you enjoy the activities taking place on American Street.
- For all ages, and a great day out for families!
- We recommend pre-booking tickets for this event.
