Harvest
Come along to the Ulster Folk Museum as we celebrate Harvest on Saturday 26th September.
Harvest is an important time of year and marks the end of the growing season, when crops are ready for gathering and processing.
Historically rural communities came together during the harvest season to help each other gather crops and store them for the winter months. The spirit of cooperation and camaraderie was evident as neighbours supported one another in this labour-intensive process. There were always jobs to be done in the Harvest season; vegetables and fruits to be picked, crops to be harvested, corn to be threshed and ground, flax to be pulled and food to be preserved in preparation for the long winter months.
About Harvest
- Have a go at potato picking
- Have a go at apple harvesting and pressing with the Co-Farm
- See harvest skills in action in our working farm
- Have a go making your own harvest knot making
- See traditional heritage craft demonstrations
- Enjoy traditional music sessions
- See some harvest baking demonstrations in our beautiful houses
- Kids craft activities
- Settle in for some harvest themed storytelling
- Parking on site will be limited. A shuttle bus will be available to support with movement from the overflow car parks to the entrance of the Ulster Folk Museum
- For visitors who have booked Green tickets – please present your public transport ticket on arrival alongside your event tickets
Food & Drink
- The Ballycultra Tearoom will be open with both hot and cold food and beverage options available
- Cold drinks and snacks are available for purchase at the museum shop (IOGT - Temperance Hall)
- McCuskers pub will be open for the purchase of alcoholic / non-alcoholic beverages and snacks (Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult in this building, alcohol strictly 18 years, Think25 in place)
- Visitors are also welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy at our outdoor picnic areas
Other
- This event is suitable for visitors of all ages. Please note that children under the age of 16 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult (18 years+)
- You can arrive to the Ulster Folk Museum anytime between 10am - 3.45pm. Please note the museum closes at 5pm
- Mobility aids are limited and available on a first come first serve basis – it is strongly advised to pre-book these in advance via info@nationalmuseumsni.org

Ticket purchases
We ask for an optional 10% donation towards our charitable work when you buy your ticket.
You can make your donation go further by ticking the Gift Aid box when completing your purchase. National museums NI will be able to claim an extra 25% of the value of your ticket from HM Revenue and Customs at no extra cost to you.
