The intriguing life of the coelacanth
In 1970s, the Ulster Museum acquired one of these most extraordinary specimens. Long thought extinct, the oldest known coelacanth fossils are over 410 million years old, but this living coelacanth was found in 1938 in deep waters off South Africa.
This is a free, drop-in event however booking is necessary. Please meet in the 'Living World' gallery on Level 3 (see the map here).
