Introduction to Spider Identification
Join Dr Grant Brown, Curator of Entomology at National Museums NI, for an engaging indoor microscopy session designed to build confidence in identifying these extraordinary arachnids.
This CEDaR training course offers hands‑on experience using microscopes to examine key anatomical features of spiders to allow identification to family level. It’s an ideal next step for beginner arachnophiles and anyone keen to deepen their understanding of spider identification.
Participants should be beginners to the study of spiders, but would benefit from experience in other invertebrate identification, and use of microscopes.
Our tutor will demonstrate best-practices for curation of a reference collection. Please note that this course will focus on examination of preserved spiders, a necessity to allow careful examination of their key anatomical features.
Tea and coffee will be available. Please bring a packed lunch.
Please note this event will take place in Cultra Manor.
